Jim L. Powers, 82, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed peacefully from this life and went to his Heavenly Home on January 28, 2014. He was born on June 12, 1931 in Sayre, OK to parents George and Frances Powers.
Jim was raised in western Oklahoma where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Jackson Powers. After starting a family, they moved to Oklahoma City to pursue a career in aviation engineering. In 1959, he relocated his family to Yukon, OK. For years, he worked alongside the pastor of the Nazarene Church, growing that congregation from a very small new start while continuing his career in engineering. He worked 11 years for Aero Commander, becoming a quality control engineer specialist for the Commodore Jet. When the jet was purchased by Israel Aircraft, he moved with it working in production of the jet in Oklahoma City, Delaware, New York City, and Israel. While in Israel, he aided in production of the F-16 Fighter Jet; receiving commendation for his efforts in the Gulf War from the US Government. His wife, Lorraine, was forced to return to the US earlier than Jim, due to the dangerous conditions in the Gulf. Upon returning to the US, Jim worked for General Dynamics in Dallas, TX until he retired. Upon retirement, he and Lorraine spent many hours touring the United States in their motor home. They had a great time making friends around the world as well as around the USA in their 61 years together. Jim Powers was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, George and Fran Powers; siblings, J.B. Powers, Delbert Powers, Velma Walker, Opal Stephens, Mae Koppy, and Jean Lowry.
