James Marsh Reid, 63, of Edmond, OK, died peacefully at Mercy Hospital on March 28, 2022, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. James was born on December 18, 1958, to John Allen and Wyn Vaden Reid in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Heritage Hall High School (1977), playing on the 1976 state champion golf team.
He earned a business administration degree from Oklahoma State University (1983), where he played on the university golf team. He went on to earn a law degree from Oklahoma City University (1988). James practiced law in Oklahoma City with local firms and in private practice, focusing on family law and insurance defense.
James was a dedicated and accomplished golfer, playing in top amateur tournaments across the country. He was a 5-time Oak Tree National Club Champion, 10-time OGA champion, won the prestigious Winged Foot Anderson Cup two years in a row, and played in two USGA championships. He also enjoyed playing poker and was a licensed pilot.
In 1993, he met Michelle Lynn Carter, and they wed in 1999. James’ greatest joy was family time with their son, Brody James Reid, born in 2013. James took enormous pleasure in rediscovering the joys of childhood through Brody‘s eyes such as Christmas morning playing with trains, legos, helping Brody with his sports and teaching Brody as much as he could. James's faith and his love for his family are what sustained him through the ups and downs of his wonderful life.
James was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; son Brody, of the home; and two brothers, Hugh Bailey of Reston, VA, and Bill (Leslie) Reid of Edmond.
Visitation will be held 8 am–8 pm on Sunday, April 3, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, with family greeting guests from 5–7 pm.
