James (Jim) Everett Porter, 94, of Oklahoma City, died on February 20th in Norman. He was born on April 20, 1920 to Everett Jackson (EJ) Porter and Ann (Annie) Mullins Maynor Porter. After college he became a WWII Combat Pilot in the Army Air Corps. He was also in intelligence work and instructed instrument only flying. After the war he married Marjorie Fern Himes on November 6, 1949. They lived in Boston, New York, Green Bay and several other places before settling in Oklahoma City to start a family. They raised two sons and were married over 52 years until Fern’s death in November 2001. He is survived by his older brother, Lt. Colonel William (Bill) Maynor, son, Paul Everett Porter and his wife, Elizabeth Yates Porter, son, David James Porter, grandsons, Scott David Porter and Edward (Ted) Christian Porter and many extended family and friends. After retiring as President of a computer company, Jim played the piano, wrote poetry, composed music and authored several stories including his experience flying over the Himalayas (The Hump) during WWII. He lived an accomplished life of service to others. Jim built and remodeled houses, loved golf and never stopped learning or living life. He loved his family and we will miss him more than words can say. He’s now in heaven with his beloved Fern. He is preceded in death by his brother, John and his sisters, Bendette, Lola, Ida, May, Lucille, Inez, Mamie, Ada Belle and Clarice. The family will received guests at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Services will be at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 25th, at Hahn-Cook, 6600 Broadway Extension. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Central Oklahoma Humane Society because he so loved his dog and constant companion, Scout.
