James “Jim” Law Barnes II was born to James L. Barnes and Virginia Ann Barnes on July 8, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the oldest of two children. Jim lived with his wife Margot in the Midwest City, Oklahoma area. They had been married 49 years and together raised 1 son, Gordon Barnes. Jim was very proud of Gordon in that he is a good man, cares for his family in the way he was taught, intelligent, and has a strong work ethic. Jim became the son that Margot’s parents, Horace and Hazel Townsend never had. Mom and Dad loved and cared for Jim as one of their own often leaving Margot to ask her parents who was really the in-law? After many years of being the consummate salesperson, Jim retired in 1998 due to health concerns. He remained active with the many projects he worked on from building turtle cages to remodeling their house or taking Margot to and from work. Jim’s love and devotion to Margot was evident by the flowers he sent, the pots of chili he made for her work, and the million other things he did for her. Jim loved the Lord. He demonstrated his faith in many ways. He coached girls’ softball, served as an Elder and usher at Life Christian Center, providing fatherly advice to all that would listen, and helping those in need. Jim’s love of Jesus and his family allowed him to “fight the good fight, finish the course, and keep his faith” (2 Timothy 4:7, paraphrased). Jim also loved animals and over the years the many that he cared for became his fur babies. During the last few years, the fight was particularly hard as the chronic illness took their toll.
Jim went to be with his Lord, April 9, 2021 in their home. He is preceded in death by Horace and Hazel Townsend, James Barnes, and Virginia Barnes. Jim is survived by his wife Margot, son Gordon and his wife Valerie, 3 grandchildren, Brit, Brice, and Katie, and their spouses and their children, and 1 brother Tim. He leaves his legacy of faith for them to continue. Jim met many people along his journey through life and would have them know that he loved and believed in them and would ask they continue to carry on with him in their hearts. Jim is also survived by his fur babies Bear, Eveready, Smokie and Moochie. Jim also leaves behind special people that cared for him over the past couple of years, 3 care-givers, Germaine, Rosa, Lisa, Shana and Shay and the caring staff at Emerald Hospice, the nurses, Tracy, Angie, and Bridget, his aides Cassi and Cassie, his Chaplin Bill, and Dr. Riggs and all the others who became an integral part of his life. Jim truly loved each one of them and when he told them he loved them and appreciated them he meant it.
