Jack was born in Oklahoma City on September 21, 1932, to Minnie Mae and Jack P.F. Bowles.
Jack graduated from Classen High School in 1950 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and flew in the Strategic Air Command for 4 years. Jack then returned to OU to earn his Master of Science degree in 1959 before eventually forming Jack Bowles Oil & Gas Exploration & Development.
Throughout his life, he had many cherished friends and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, Queenbury Club, and American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was also active in the work of the YMCA and OU School of Geology. Family and friends will remember him as an avid sportsman, pilot, and historian as well as for his quick wit and good humor.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert O. Bowles. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jan Bowles of Atlanta, GA, his daughter Michelle Lanuti (Brett) of La Jolla, CA, son John Stebbins (Leslie) of Atlanta, GA, sister Betty Ashford (George) of Edmond, OK, sister-in-law Linda Bowles of Oklahoma City, OK, grandchildren Fletcher Lanuti of Dallas, TX, Stella Mae Lanuti of La Jolla, CA, Lauren Stebbins of Atlanta, GA and Grant Stebbins of Atlanta, GA.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 28th at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Edward L. Gaylord Downtown YMCA, First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, or the University of Oklahoma School of Geosciences.
