On June 3, 2018, Elizabeth M. (Betty) Stoner joined her beloved husband of 67 Years, Oscar, in Heaven. Betty was born May 22, 1924 in Story City, Iowa and was preceded in death by her parents Norman H. Cattell and Edna May Mathews Cattell. She is survived by two sisters Barbara Phillips, Cañon City, Colorado, and Edythe (Del) Noble, Harlingen, Texas. After graduating from Story City High School she went to Business College in Des Moines and worked for the Ag. Extension Service at Iowa State College. In 1944 she met a Navy Seaman who was in the V-12 program at Iowa State College, and in 1945 married Oscar E. Stoner Jr. After the War she continued working at Iowa State till 1947 when Oscar graduated and they began their career with Gulf Oil Corporation. Over the next 70 years, as they moved 23 times about the states and Singapore, Betty devoted herself to Oscar and their children, and extended Cambodian families in providing a Christian way of life.
Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and preparing special dishes from the places they lived, her Crawfish Etouffee and Oyster’s Bienville were remarkable, and the ancestral “Stoner” date pudding was the Christmas special. Betty and Oscar were members of many Methodist churches, including Mayfair Heights in 1960 and Chapel Hill UMC in 1974. Throughout her lifetime, she belonged to many Civic Service organizations, PEO, and numerous mission programs, her servanthood exemplified the Wesleyan Way: Do No Harm, Do Good, and Stay in Love with God.
Betty is survived by two children Randall (Brenda), Dorothy Jean (John), two grandchildren Aimee (CJ) and Kristen, and two great-grandchildren Ava and Ezra. Her legacy will endure throughout the lives of each of them. Also, the family would like to thank The Fountains at Canterbury and Mercy Hospice for their compassionate loving care. Memorial Services will be Saturday, June 16, at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 305 E Hurd St, Edmond, OK 73034.
