Elbert Eugene Owens passed away September 10, 2019 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was born November 30, 1930 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. A graduate of Shawnee High School, he went on to graduate from Oklahoma Baptist University where he set records playing baseball that stood for several decades.
Elbert worked for over 30 years with Oklahoma Natural Gas, retiring as area manager. He was awarded the Sales Executive of the Year by ONG.
Elbert was an active member of the Midwest City and Clinton Chamber of Commerce. Serving as President, he worked with Tinker Air Force Base to produce the Bicentennial Air Show in 1976. Elbert was also a member of the Rotary Club.
Elbert is preceded in death by his parents Herman Owens and Jessie Valaday and wife Rita Lea Owens.
He is survived by his son Rev. Barry and Tiffani Owens of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter Dr. Kelly and Kevin McCoy of Edmond, OK; grandchildren Lindsey Lea Craig of Edmond, Lexi Taylor Faught of Edmond, Mitchell Ellis Owens of Broken Arrow, Braxton Grant Owens of Broken Arrow; great grandchildren William Grant Craig of Edmond and Georgia Lea Craig of Edmond.
Graveside services were held 2 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2019 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
