Don was born December 1st, 1933 to William E and Lena Garrett. He was the youngest of four children. Don received his education from Classen High School where he was an outstanding wrestler. After graduating high school, Don enlisted in the United States Army. After being stationed in Germany, Don returned home and attended OCU where he earned his degree in Accounting.
Don was an avid golfer for most of his life with a 6 handicap, playing rain or shine. He was a die hard Sooner fan. He attended games for years and never got down even when the Sooners did. Don loved gardening and landscaping. His rosebushes were a testament to his green thumb.
Don, married Jeanette Stewart on May 26, 1978, enjoying 43 years of marriage. Jeanette had two sons and a daughter that Don bonded with as if they were his own. They all loved him for his kindness, generosity, good heart and sense of humor.
Don was preceded in death by both his parents as well as his sisters Betty Niles and Theda Silvey and brother William “Bud” Garrett, Jr., and his step-daughter Amy Bolles.
Don is survived by his loving wife Jeanette; two step-sons, Bobby Stewart and wife Donna of Bridgecreek, Scott Stewart and wife Charlotte of Yukon; and his six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice, especially his nurse Kim Cline for all her help in caring for him during his final days.
Don had seen just about everything life had to offer and knew his faith would sustain him. Many of his friends and family preceded him to Glory and we have no doubt there will be a joyous reunion with them as he meets his Lord and Savior.
A graveside service with military honors will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
