Dennis Ray Mask, Sr., MD, joined God in heaven on May 17, 2015. He fought a brave and courageous battle with Parkinson Disease for 16 years. He was born in OKC on October 7, 1941 to Faye Pauline and John Ward Mask who preceded him in death.
Dennis attended Midwest City High School, graduating in 1959. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology/chemistry from Central State University. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1969, practicing medicine in the field of Nephrology in Oklahoma City until his retirement in 1998. Dennis was devoted to his patients. He developed dialysis units throughout the western part of the state to enable them to have treatment near their hometowns.
Dennis taught at the University of Oklahoma as an assistant professor of medicine and served on the board of the Oklahoma County Medical Society. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality from 1994-2000. He was a longtime member of Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond and cherished his Sundays with his special Sunday school flock.
Dennis enjoyed OU football, the OKC Thunder, traveling and especially enjoyed his time fishing at Grand Lake. But his first love was his family, who survive him. He married his wife and best friend, Karen Lea Black, December 7, 1968. They raised three sons, Denny R. Mask, Jr. (Cindy) of Edmond, Dr. Derek R. Mask (Nichole) of Norman, and Daniel R. Mask (Kimberly) of Edmond. He was the proud Poppy of 9 grandchildren: Denny III, Christyn, Cassidy, Grayson, Saylor, Rhyan, Reynolds, Avery, and Brody.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2015 at New Covenant United Methodist Church, 2700 S. Boulevard St., Edmond, Oklahoma 73013 with Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday 8 am – 9 pm, family to greet friends Wednesday from 7pm - 9pm at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper.
