Darlene Doris Giger, of Choctaw, OK, died on Friday, June 24, 2016, at the age of 81. She was born on April 19, 1935, to August and Emma (Leapaldt) Ziesch, in Pettibone, ND. Darlene received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Concordia River Forest, Chicago IL. She married John Giger on July 10, 1960, and they were married for 55 years. John and Darlene lived in several locations including Albuquerque NM, Anchorage AK, Billerica MA, Long Valley NJ, Acton MA, Woomera South Australia, and Choctaw, OK where they made their home since 1978. Darlene taught elementary school for 4 years in New Jersey before raising her 3 children. She also served as a substitute teacher in Choctaw/Nicoma Park after the children had grown. She enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping, traveling, visiting family, sewing, embroidery, playing piano and organ, a wide variety of music, gardening, yard work, teaching Sunday School and serving in the church, supporting missions projects, and singing in the church choir. She had sung in 3 of Billy Graham’s choirs. Darlene is survived by her husband John; 1 son Mike (Lucy) of Maynard, MA; 1 daughter Nancy (Brian Bishop) of Edmond, OK; and grandchildren Deborah (Eli Ellison), David, and Daniel Giger, and Jared, Jacob, and Ally Bishop. She is also survived by her brothers Robert (Delores) of Pettibone, ND; Duane (Karen) of Pettibone, ND; and Delton of Des Moines, IA; her sister Ardelle Loose of Jamestown, ND; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Verla Schmidt (Reinhold) and Lois Schmidt (Harry); her brother-in-law Lawrence Loose; and her daughter Marianne who died at age 15. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd St., OKC, OK, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W. Hefner Rd, OKC, OK, with burial to follow in Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Birth Choice of Oklahoma (www.birthchoice.org).
