Cynthia "Cindy" Diane Poteet, aged 55, died peacefully on July 21, 2015 after an arduous three-year fight with breast cancer. Cindy was born on May 19, 1960 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Mervin and Jean Hey.
Cindy was an animal lover with a special affection toward her feline friends. She had a vast array of friends across the nation with a mission to re-home abandoned and neglected animals. She diligently worked toward this effort.
Cindy graduated from Southeast High School and attended South Oklahoma City Junior College, majoring in drafting and design. She worked as a landscape draftsman for several years before her second daughter was born, when she refocused her life's goals on her three daughters. She was also an expert seamstress and loved working on projects for her daughters and grandchildren.
Cindy was a woman of God. She was dedicated to Oakcliff Church of the Nazarene for many years until she moved away from the area. She served on various church projects and designed the weekly flower arrangements with her recognized creative talents.
In her last years, her tenacity and optimism reached far beyond her family and friends. Through social media, her empathy and nurturing spirit fostered lasting friendships with people whom she had never met. Dozens of people from around the world have reached out to the family to speak about her positive influence on their personal battle with cancer. These same people were surprised to hear of her passing because her own pain was never the focus.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 32 years, Larry; three daughters, Michelle, and her husband Charles Long, III, Kimberly, and Erika; five grandchildren, Meghan, Mikah, Charles IV, Aubrey and Magen; her sister, Nancy Henderson, of Guthrie, OK; her brother, Claude Wayne Henderson and his wife Deanna, of Tecumseh, OK; her brother, Kenneth Henderson and his wife Rose, of Wyoming; her sister Joan and her husband Daryl Skoog, of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister Janet and her husband Gary Tollefson, of Sioux Falls, SD; her sister Myrna and her husband Joe Fountain, of Oklahoma City, OK; and her sister Debbie and her husband Steve Yandell of Red Oak, OK. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Charles Henderson.
