Chad LeRoy Ely was born Sep 8, 1919 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Roy Alford and Hazel Ivy (Fry) Ely. He passed away Saturday, Jan 11th at the age of 94. Chad proudly served our country during WWII in the US Army. He received a purple heart for his brave and dedicated service. He attended classes at Southwestern College and worked at Tinker AFB, retiring in 1977 after 20 + years. While living in Oklahoma City, Chad was a member of Pennsylvania Christian Church, then in El Reno, a member of Amity Baptist and later the First Baptist Church. He and wife Virginia lived numerous years in El Reno. He is survived by a sister, Alice Colson; numerous nieces and nephews, Sharon Riggs & husband Warren, Don Colson & wife Connie, Damon Colson & wife Teresa, Stella Williams & husband Steven, Virginia Ashley & husband Grant, Debbie Smith, Leroy Unruh & wife JoAnn, Jo Unruh, Johnny Unruh, Aaron Unruh & wife Terri, James Unruh & wife Cora as well as numerous other extended family and friends. Chad was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia; and 2 sisters, Flora Unruh and Verna Taylor. Chad was very patriotic and passionate about support for our country and all things America. He spent his last 2 years at the Norman Veterans Center. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the Salvation Army or El Reno Mobile Meals. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Interment with military honors to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
