Bonnie Jean Barrett

Bonnie was born in Wyoming to Wallace and Lydia Rains, she grew up on a farm and graduated from High School in Loveland, Colorado. After graduation she attended Parks School of Business in Denver. While in Denver, Bonnie married Dan Haugseth and had a daughter, Lisa. They were later divorced.

In 1970, Bonnie married the love of her life, C. Jay Barrett in Wyoming, accepting his 8 children as if they were her own. They enjoyed 32 years of marriage until his death in 2002. She and Jay worked extensively in alcohol and drug rehabilitation in Nebraska and Wyoming, even opening a halfway house for recovering substance abusers in their home at one point. Bonnie also became involved in ministry to prisoners in county jail and prison after Jay's death, helping with Bible study, visiting, and writing letters to inmates. She was involved with Prison Fellowship, Genesis One, and Angel Tree.

Bonnie had 28 years of experience as a legal secretary and paralegal assistant. She was also employed at the Wyoming State Hospital in Evanston, Wyoming for a number of years as a secretary.

Bonnie surrendered her life to Jesus on November 18, 1973. She loved Jesus with all her heart, read His Word, and had a prayer list that she prayed through every morning. She was a wonderful encourager and wrote hundreds of encouragement cards, notes and letters to her friends, family members, church members, and prison inmates. Her greatest desire was that others would know the love of Jesus like she did.

Her hobbies included playing bridge, reading, country music, crafts, and watching the Price is Right.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Lisa; son, Marty (Elaine) Barrett; daughter, Laura (Chris) Barnes; son, Troy Barrett; son, Tim (Connie) Barrett; son, Tracy (Lori) Barrett. She was Grandma Bonnie to 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She loved her big family.

Her parents, brother Jerry, sister Sharon and children Doug, Vickie, and Randy, and son-in-law Ky preceded her in death.
