Bill F. Snipes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away on June 20, 2024, at the age of 81. Born in Oklahoma City on March 25, 1943 to Bill W. and Sylvia M. Snipes during World War II. His father served in the Navy, and his mother lovingly made a miniature sailor suit for young Bill, just like Dad’s.
Bill attended Northwest Classen High School, graduating in 1961. Among his fondest memories was playing in the 1959/60 State Championship football game, where Northwest Classen clinched victory in the final moments against Norman High School, earning the coveted State Football Championship Gold Football.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bill loved watching OU and OSU games. He also enjoyed playing golf weekly with a close-knit group of friends. He pursued higher education attending both OU and OSU, ultimately earning his degree from OSU.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, completing boot camp at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. His service, which included training in Okinawa, was a source of immense pride for him. True to the Marine Corps motto, “Once a Marine, always a Marine”.
Following his military service, Bill joined the Oklahoma City Police Department, where he served with distinction as a Police Officer and Sergeant. His work as a Homicide and Robbery Detective for 8 years showcased his commitment to justice and public safety. After 20 years with the OCPD, he was appointed Marshal of the Municipal Courts of Oklahoma City, a position he held for 16 years until his retirement.
Bill’s personal life was equally fulfilling. He and his wife, Cheri (Bennett) Snipes, shared 53 wonderful years together, raising two beautiful daughters Mindy Snipes Moeller and Lacey Snipes VanBrauman. Bill was immensely proud of his daughter and his precious granddaughter, Lily Sofia VanBrauman, whom he simply adored.
Bill’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will be cherished by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed. His life will be celebrated Friday, June 28, 2024 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 2:00 p.m., 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
