A Memorial Mass for Mary Ann Caswell, age 69 of Heuvelton, will be held on Saturday (Nov 17, 2018) at 11:00am at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Heuvelton with Rev. Kevin O’Brien officiating. Private burial will be at Beech Plains Cemetery in Pierrepoint.
Calling hours will be held on Friday (Nov 16th) from 11:00am – 2:00pm & 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Caswell passed away on November 11, 2018 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving is her husband Alson of Heuvelton; her mother Mary Ann Sabol of Lafayette IN; four sons Alson Caswell (Ellie Hayes) of Oswego, George Caswell (Patty Plumadore) of Chazy, Joseph (Carla) Caswell of Roseburg OR and Adam (Heather) Caswell of Mt. Alto WV; three daughters Nancy (Mark) Miles of Elmira NY, Allyson (Brett) Moore of Elmira NY, Amanda (Alan) Chavis of E. Haven CT; grandchildren Taylor, Andrew, Neal, Maggie, Lilly, Kaylin, Dustin, Samantha, Leeta, Devin, Cody & Jordan; great-grandchildren Amelia & Colton; two brothers Jack (Cheryl) Sabol of MI and Greg (Rose Ann) Sabol of ID; six sisters Janet (Bob) Baker of VA, Carol (Richard) Bailey of IN, Donna (Steve) Nickel of MI, Nancy (Denny) Edwards of IN, Peggy Lazorchak of IN and Patty (Bernard) Scheetz of IN.
She was predeceased by her father John Sabol.
Mary Ann was born on June 8, 1949 in Lafayette IN, a daughter of John & Mary Ann (Stock) Sabol. She graduated from the Central Catholic School in Indiana and continued her education to receive a Bachelor degree from Indiana University, a Masters Degree from Syracuse University and Doctorate Degree from Purdue University. She married Alson Caswell on May 09, 1975 at the St. Lawrence Church in Indiana.
During her 45-year nursing career, she worked at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center primarily in the ICU department and later as a professor at Canton College until she retired. She also worked as a transport nurse for Claxton Hepburn Medical Center and Canton Potsdam Hospital as well as a home nurse for Health Services of Northern NY.
Mary Ann was a member of numerous nursing associations, and a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed horses, reading, crocheting, ceramics, traveling and spending time with her family. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center.
