Funeral services for Joseph M. Cosentino, age 89 of the Lee Road; Ogdensburg will be held at 11:00am on Monday (Aug 15, 2016) at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 – 6:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Cosentino passed away on Wednesday evening at his home with his family by his side.
Surviving are nephews Michael Venti & his wife Diane Holley of Orange CA, Thomas Venti & his wife Kimberly of Williamsport PA, Vincent Venti & his wife Susan of Naples FL, Benjamin Demperio & his wife Patricia of Camillus and Duke Epolito & his wife Peggy of Phoenix NY; and a sister Rose Epolito of Syracuse along with nieces and nephews. His wife Julia Cosentino predeceased him on August 1, 2013.
Joe was born on April 12, 1927 in Syracuse NY, a son of the late Salvatore & Palma (Rizzo) Cosentino. He entered the US Navy during WWII, and was stationed on the USS Randolph Aircraft Carrier as a Navy Seaman Second Class. He later married Julia M. Donaleski on May 22, 1948 at the St. Cecilia Church in Solvay NY.
During his career, he operated a food wagon in the Ogdensburg Industrial Park, drove truck for General Electric and worked as a counselor at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center until his retirement in 1983. He was a Grand Knight with the K of C, a trustee for Am Vets, a Seaway Festival Committee Member, First Vice-President of Fort La Presentation, CSEA representative for both active and retire employees and a tireless advocate for senior citizen and veteran’s organizations throughout the county.
