Frederick L. Badlam Jr., passed away suddenly on Saturday evening April 23, 2016; while attending an Amateur Athletic Union basketball tournament in Rochester with his son and other teammates. Fred was 55 years old. Arrangement are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home at 528 Franklin St; Ogdensburg, NY.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday April 27th from 2 to 4pm & 6 to 8pm at the funeral home. A funeral mass, officiated by Rev. James Shurtleff; will take place at Notre Dame Church, 125 Ford Ave in Ogdensburg NY at 10AM on Thursday April 28th with burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery on County Rt 6 Ogdensburg.
Mr. Badlam is survived by a son Connor Badlam and a daughter Brooke Badlam, both of Ogdensburg; a daughter Vanessa Badlam of Canton, NY; his parents Rick and Mary Jean Badlam of Ogdensburg; a brother Michael (Lori) Badlam of Williamsburg, VA; an uncle Steve (Ruth Ann) Badlam of Ogdensburg; two nephews Jason & Michael Badlam Jr.; three cousins Jessica and Aubrey Badlam and Emily Lemieux.
Fred graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1978. He was employed by Ogdensburg City Recreation for a period of one year, and then became employed by his father Rick’s heavy contracting company, Fred Badlam Construction Inc. from 1980 until mid-August 1987. In September of 1987, he then became an employee of the Ogdensburg City Fire Dept, working as a dedicated professional firefighter until his retirement in July of 2015. After retirement, he continued working at Howland Pump in Ogdensburg. Previous marriages to Roxanne (McWilliams) Howard & Kelley (Douglas) Badlam ended, but they remained friends.
Fred had a born passion for any and all types of sports. He was an active participant from elementary school thru high school with various city sports leagues. He enjoyed and played city league fast pitch softball for most of his young, prime of life years. He favored and loved basketball above all other sports, and eventually acquired a superior knowledge of the game both on and off the court. He loved and enjoyed youngsters and gave freely, much of his free time in the not too distant past was given to O’burg Biddy Basketball, O’burg Pop Warner and O’burg Kiwanis Baseball as a coach and mentor.
