Funeral services for Charles “Dody” LaRue, Sr., 84, of Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday (March 9, 2019) at 10:00am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Friday (Mar 8, 2019) from 12:00-2:00 pm & 4:00-6:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Mr. LaRue passed away on Monday (Mar 4, 2019) at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving are his children Charles LaRue Jr. & his companion Sherry Yerden of Ogdensburg; two daughters Celeste Gilbert & her husband Marc of Ogdensburg and Cathy LaRue & her companion Fred Delosh of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Erica Holt & her companion Daniel Polniak Jr., Janelle Reif & her companion Ross Bouthillette, Alyssa Lader & her companion Rich Babcock, Kory Gates, Ross Leader Jr., Ryleigh Leeder, Shelby O’Connell & her husband Dave, Brenton LaRue & his wife Ashley, Bryant LaRue & his companion Natosha Rogers; great grandchildren Kresten, Teeghen, Emma, Keegan, Eva, Audrey, Bentley, Oakley, Elijah, Nikayla, Kieran, Breslin, and Zeppelin; stepson Wayne Gardner of Madrid; step-daughter Lesa Gardner of Madrid; a brother John Mills of NJ; a sister Joyce Larson of Florida, his loyal four-legged companion Sandy, along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Donna (Abrid) LaRue; two brothers Joseph & Richard LaRue; two sisters Dorothy Bennett and Geraldine Trombley and a great-grandson Wyitt.
Charles was born on April 13, 1934 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Joseph & Marion (Dwight) LaRue. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and later enlisted in the US Army. He had a longtime relationship with Joyce (McDermott) Love who was the mother of his children. Following their separation, he later married Donna Abrid.
He was employed at Alcoa Aluminum in Massena for 35 years as a laborer and later went to work for Community Bank in Ogdensburg where he worked an additional 20+ years as their grounds keeper. Charles was a former member of the Ogdensburg Moose, Am Vets and VFW. He also was a member of the men’s pool league, horseshoe league, dart club, baseball league, bowling league, and was an avid NASCAR, NY Mets, and San Francisco 49ers fan.
