Ruth Ramirez

In 1947, she moved with her family to Odessa, where she later graduated from Odessa High School and Odessa College. Ruth was a graduate of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.

In 1952, Ruth became the first Hispanic teacher hired in the Ector County School District. Her first assignment was to teach pre-first grade at Rusk Elementary, where she taught English to Spanish speaking students that were falling behind. In 1953, she was transferred to Milam Elementary where she taught until her retirement in 1985.

She loved and cared for all of her students. She loved her family dearly.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her siblings.

She is survived by her brother, Efrain (Rita) Ramirez, sister, Mary Conlon and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Medical Center Hospital. The family is so appreciative of the wonderful Hospice nurse, Rebecca. They would also like to thank the phenomenal staff at Buena Vida.

Open visitation will take place at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 11am – 9pm. Graveside funeral service will take place at Ector County Cemetery on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wes Duckett officiating.
