Rita Flora Torrance

Rita Torrance, 88, a long-time Odessa resident passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Hospice House.

She was born May 15, 1922 in Fall River, MA , the oldest of five children born to Donat Caron and Flora Michaud Caron. She married Donald M. Torrance Jan. 5, 1946 in Fall River, MA. They shared 60 wonderful years together until his death, July 2006.

Rita and Don moved to Odessa in 1950. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and taught kindergarten at the school for 11 years then helped manage Don Torrance Co. until retirement. She traveled the world with family and friends, and participated in numerous dance groups in the area.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother of 4, grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 5. She is survived by two daughters, Deanna George and husband Jim Robinette of Round Rock, TX; Jeanne Phillips of Summerdale, AL; two sons, Mark Torrance and wife, Robin of Waterboro, ME; Ricky Torrance and wife, Margie of Greenville, TX and grandchildren: Chris George, Brian George, Caron Bradley, Ben Phillips, Amy Foerster, Caitlin Torrance, Rebecca Torrance, Shaunna Mason, Brandon Torrance & Clayton Torrance.

Visitation will be available Tuesday afternoon until the Rosary on Wednesday, Feb 23 at 7 pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday, Feb 24 at 2 pm at St Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
