Melvin Kenneth Griffin

Ken Griffin is a practicing attorney who was born in Dallas, TX, in 1931 and raised in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. He has been married to Glenda Rae Smith for 60 yrs and they have three (3) grown children.

He graduated from Odessa High School in Odessa, TX and played football and basketball. He received his law degree from the University of Texas Law School at Austin, TX in 1957 and was admitted to practice in the State of Texas that same year

Mr. Griffin served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict as an anti-aircraft ordinance specialist and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff sergeant. He qualified as an expert rifleman and was named as the outstanding member of his platoon.

Upon graduation from law school and admission to the State Bar of Texas in 1957, Mr. Griffin returned to his home town of Odessa, TX as has continuously been engaged in the practice of law as a sole practitioner. His experience as a lawyer is in both litigation and office practice with a broad range of civil law matters.

Mr. Griffin has completed a comprehensive mediation training program conducted by the American Academy of Attorney-Mediators, Inc., in Dallas, TX. He is licensed to practice law before the U. S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, the Texas Supreme Court and all States Courts of Texas.

Mr. Griffin has been certified since 1983 in Commercial Real Estate Law, Farm and Ranch Real Estate Law and Residential Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and a past President of the Ector County Bar Association. He has taught Real Estate Law and Notary Public Law courses at Odessa College.

He has been a member of the Church of Christ for 54 years and has served as an Elder at the Sixth & Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa for 35 years. He taught bible classes for many years. He was a member of the Odessa East Rotary club in Odessa since 1979 and served as a past president of that organization and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Mr. Griffin was married to Glenda Rae Smith on Sept. 15, 1951 in Odessa. They have three children: Randy Griffin & wife Jan of Abilene, TX: Gail Schwartz & husband Jody of Garden City, TX, & Lori Griffin of Odessa, (5) grandchildren: Jarrod & Jordan Griffin of Lubbock, Cole & Shelby Schwartz of Garden City, & Dalton Howell of Odessa.

Visitation will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home from 6pm - 8pm Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 6th & Jackson Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
