Marion Virginia Atkins Reedy, 92, of Odessa, TX, passed from her earthly life on December 6, 2022, in Abilene, TX. Marion was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Rev. Gustave A. and Elsa (Woerner) Schulze on January 4, 1930.
Marion attended Fredericksburg High School for two years. She graduated from Balboa High School, in Panama, Canal Zone in 1947. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and graduated from nursing school in Levelland, TX from Levelland Junior College. She practiced nursing as an LVN at the Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, TX for 10 years.
Marion married Rev. Hardin Louis Atkins III, on March 15, 1949 in San Benito, TX. They were married for 56 years and had four daughters. After retiring from the Methodist ministry she and Hardin returned to Odessa, TX where she volunteered at Odessa Regional Hospital with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and served the church in many ways. She sang in the chancel choir, served as a communion steward, a vacation bible school worker and with the United Methodist Women. She faithfully delivered a route weekly with Meals on Wheels and lent support at the headquarters of the Ector County Democratic Party.
After the loss of her first husband Marion married Boyd Reedy on May 31, 2008 in San Antonio, TX. After almost 60 years they reconnected, enjoying spending time together and traveling.
Marion was a proud descendant of early German American immigrants in the Texas Hill Country surrounding Fredericksburg and Mason.
Survived by her husband, Boyd Reedy of Odessa, TX, her daughters Carolyn V. Atkins of San Antonio, TX, Catherine Atkins of Kerrville, TX, Christine Anderson (David) of North Richland Hills, TX and Cynthia Edmonston (George) of Fredericksburg, TX, stepson David Reedy (Chiharu) of Tokyo, Japan, 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild, and 2 great great grandchildren, sisters Louise Taylor (Carl) of San Antonio, TX and Linda Scherzinger of Halifax, Nova Scotia and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Hardin Louis Atkins III, step-daughter Noel Reedy, and grand-daughter Tamira Lee Casler.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, December 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury UMC with Pastor Raul Garcia officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
