Maria Syria Torres

Maria was born in Marfa, TX on July 31,1939 to the late Juan Paz Chavez and Rosa Zambrano. Maria graduated from Ector High School and continued on to receive a bachelor’s degree from UTPB. Maria married Jose Torres on September 10, 1960.

She worked as a teacher for ECISD for 25 years. Maria enjoyed baking, sewing, listening to the Oldies and loved watching I Love Lucy.

Maria is survived by spouse Jose Torres, children, Joe Luis, Carolyn and Sally Torres, brothers Edward Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Fabian Chavez of Artesia, New Mexico and sisters, Manuela Taboada of Odessa. TX, Alicia Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM, Mary H. Ehlers of Las Cruces, NM and Olivia Thurman of NM., grandchildren, Monique Simmons of Odessa, TX, Nicholas and Ava Torres of Round Rock, TX, Devin Smith of Odessa, TX and Rhianna Jones of Mansfield, TX, great granddaughter, Aaniyah Williams of Odessa, TX, a host of nieces and nephews, and very special cousin Stella Rangel.

Maria is preceded in death by fathers, Antonio Zambrano and Juan Paz Chavez, mothers, Rosa Zambrano and Marcela S. Chavez, brothers, Armando Chavez, John Chavez, Roy Chavez. Joe L. Chavez, Abelardo and Daniel Zambrano.

Honorary pallbearers are Elias Rangel, Oscar Rangel, Paul Rangel, Marko Rangel, Sammy Valencia, Jonathan Gomez, Daniel Chavez, Mark Machuka and honorary pallbearer in memoriam, David Rangel
