‘God saw JoAnn getting tired’
A cure was not meant to be’
‘God wrapped his arms around her and whispered’,
“JoAnn come with me”.
JoAnn returned to her true home in Heaven guided by the loving hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 10, 2013.
JoAnn was born February 27, 1935, to Wilburn Harold and Faye Spivey Smith at Truscott, Knox County, Texas. She was a wonderful daughter, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. JoAnn married Naylan Neil Vencil December 19, 1954, at the First United Methodist Church in Odessa.
JoAnn moved to Odessa with her Family in 1941. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1952. JoAnn entered Texas Technological College in Lubbock and later transferred to The University of Texas where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was a member and Group Leader of the Bible Study Fellowship International for several years. She was co-owner of The Shop Unique, Gift and Flower Shop, until retiring in 1996.
JoAnn cherished the time spent with her many dear friends, especially her many “bridge” friends and the most cherished time spent with her two Son’s and their Families, especially her three Grand Sons.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her Brother, Floyd Randal Smith, deceased April 26, 1967, her Sister, Nancy Smith Copeland deceased, May 28, 2009, her Mother Virgie Faye Smith deceased December 27, 1989 and her Father, Wilburn Smith deceased, May 18, 1992.
She is survived by her Husband, Naylan Neil Vencil, Son, Michael Scott Vencil and wife Nancy. Son, Greg Neil Vencil and wife Teresea. Gandson, Daniel Franklin Vencil, wife Leanne and their Daughter, Adeline Eleanor Vencil and Grandsons, Timothy Andrew Vencil and Adam Neil Vencil. She will lie in state Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
A memorial service will be 2pm Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at The Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer Association and/or The Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, Odessa, Texas.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
