She moved from Oklahoma to Odessa in the early 1950’s. She married Harold Franklin Smith and together they managed the Humble Service Station and the Odessa American Legion.
She loved her dog and cats – Brandi, Tiger and Annie were her family. She enjoyed country music, but only the classic country – she didn’t care for the new stuff. Hazel loved get-togethers, especially around the holidays, where she could bring her favorite dishes.
Hazel is survived by her sister: Myrtle Case of Marlow, OK; sister-in-law: Lu Newport of Carbon, TX; nieces: Tracy Hamman and husband Timothy of Odessa and Nita Newport of Marlow, OK; nephews: Ricky Newport and wife Diana of Abilene and Robert Newport and wife Alicia of Lawton, OK and Mark Newport of Carbon, TX; grandnieces and nephews: Jordan Hamman, Alicia Hamman, Travis Newport, Richard Newport, Kimberly Newport, Cole Newport, Lane Newport, Abby Newport, Reed Newport and Shannon Newport; and good friends and neighbors, Frank and Adam.
She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Buddy, Tommy, Bobby, and Olan Newport; sisters-in-law, Marlene and Lola; and nephew, Richard Newport.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 5-8 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1 PM at the Odessa section of Ector County Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
