Gregory Reuben Ashley, age 58, passed away peacefully in his home in Odessa, Texas on July 11, 2018. He was born on March 4, 1960 in Ft. Stockton, Texas to Janet and Connell Ashley and would have moved with his family to Odessa, Texas in 1962. He graduated from Permian High School in 1978 where he excelled on the golf team and where he also made lifelong friends. He graduated from Austin College with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree and later obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the South Texas College of Law in Houston.
Growing up in his household, he was destined to become an attorney as his Father, Brothers and Great Uncle were all lawyers. Greg was generous and kind, and loved to make others laugh. He had a sense of humor that knew no boundaries and made even the most stoic laugh. Greg was a man of many loves; he loved his San Saba roots, hunting, cooking, writing poetry, telling stories, playing golf and the Rolling Stones, but most of all -- he loved his friends and family and sharing whatever he had with them. Greg never met a stranger and the relationships he formed over the years was a true example of his passion for having fun and living life to the fullest.
Greg is survived by his wife of 23 years Marla Miller Ashley, his daughters Jamye Ashley and Ali Ashley Blasi, Brother Stephen Connell Ashley, his wife Staci Ashley and children, Stockton Anna, Price, and Reaves, and Brother Mark Alan Ashley, his wife Juliana and their children Janet and Anthony. He further leaves behind to cherish his memory Marla’s Father Don Miller, brother-n-law Paul Miller and sister-n-law Lisa Moring, along with their spouses and children which were always a source of great comfort and joy for Greg. There are also his many cousins, his Aunts, Ella Mae and Karla, along with Uncle Les to whom he was eternally devoted and to which he treasured their love and friendship.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, Janet and Connell Ashley
The family wanted to express their appreciation and gratitude for the outstanding care, the remarkable level of professionalism and the sincere love and attention he received from all of those medical care providers who treated Greg but would especially like to acknowledge the care he received from Dr. Mary Beth Cishek at Seton Heart Institute in Austin and Home Hospice of Odessa and particularly the care received from Tammy Solley who went beyond the call of duty with her attention to Greg’s needs during his final days.
