Daughter of Virgil and Florence Cooper (whom she loved dearly), Ruth was born in Bonham, TX on Feb. 26, 1929. Nothing was
more important than her family and her Lord. Ruth was a small town girl at heart, and to her, friends and family were without a
doubt, her reason for living. She was a beautiful woman both in body and mind. Her charm and love and quick wit kept family
and friends entertained at any gathering. She had a tremendous love for children, and because of that she chose to be a
teacher.
Most of her teaching was spent in the West Texas area. She taught at all levels in various schools of Texas including the
cities of Windom, Gail, Flower Grove, Rankin, Spade, Three Way, White Deer, and Odessa. She dedicated 32 years of service
in education. She was known as the teacher that made you think creatively and laugh uncontrollably.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them with love, teasing, and good cooking. She loved God,
children, animals (her dog, Major Jo), her family and most of all, her wonderful grandchildren: Keith Austin Dykes, Clay Cooper
Coleman, Kristopher Ryan Dykes, and Tracy Jennifer Coleman McCumber.
She was a charter member of the Sherwood Church of Christ and loved her church and church family dearly. She served her
Lord with reverence, and walked in faith throughout her life.
She married Roy Dykes (passed away March 1, 2011) in 1948. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. They had one
daughter, Cindy Rae Coleman (Ross) of Kingsville, TX and one son, Robert Clay Dykes (Janet) of Odessa, TX. She is survived
by three grandsons, Keith and Kris Dykes, Clay Coleman (Taelyr) and one granddaughter, Jenny McCumber (Keith) and two
great-grandchildren, Duncan and Allison along with numerous nieces and nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.
She loved her four sisters who all passed away before her. They were “Cat,” “ Mutt,” Mary, and Geri.
Arrangements are under the direction of Odessa Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Hospice
