David Sims Duke, 60, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2011. He was born on April 15, 1950 in Ballinger, Texas. Surviving are his wife, Jeanie Duke of Odessa, son; Tony N. Duke and his wife, Candice, and their son, Gavin Sims Duke of Del City, Okla.. sisters; Wilma Duke of San Angelo, Nita Stubblefield of Abilene, brother; John W. Duke of San Angelo, special friends Bill and Sherry Salter of Odessa. David loved talking to people about any and everything, but especially about cars. He had old-fashioned values and high expectations of people. Honesty and loyalty were important to him. He loved his family especially his grandson, and was looking foward to meeting the one on the way. When he was able, David helped deliver Meals on Wheels. After his illness became advanced,he still attended church at MidCities when he was able. He was especially proud of his son Tony, for serving in the Air Force. He often told people about what a great “momma” his daughter- in- law was and how lucky Tony was to have found her. He was always patient and thankful of those taking care of him. He will be missed by his family and many others that crossed his path. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 9 am until 9 pm and the family will greet friends from 5 pm until 8 pm at Odessa Funeral Home. Services have been set for 9 am on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Odessa Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Martin of MidCities Church, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 pm at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas. The Duke family would like to express a special thank you to Medical Center Hospital, Deerings Nursing Center, Star Hospice, MidCities Church and the staff of Security Bank for all their love and care.Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels of Odessa.
