A virtual farewell service will be held on September 13th for family and friends. Reverend Elizabeth Wilson Manahan of Blanche’s home church, First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside will be officiating. Interment is planned for 2021 at Rosecrans National Cemetary on Point Loma, California where Blanche will be reunited with her husband, MSgt Henry Lindsey (U.S. Marines, Ret).
Blanche was born in Bordeaux, South Carolina on March 10, 1922 to Theodore Portier Bouchillon and Cleo Martha Mitchell. She graduated from Girl’s High School in Anderson, S.C. and continued on to receive her degree from Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. She was a proud alumnus of Anderson University and supported their alumni association through the years. Blanche was married to Henry Jackson Lindsey, Jr of Anderson on November 27, 1948. They were married fifty-one years.
Blanche worked as the church secretary for many years at the First Presbyterian church of Oceanside starting in about 1954. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing in church and community choirs. The former San Diego Chargers lost a very dedicated fan in Blanche when they broke her heart and moved away. She remained actively involved in many aspects of her church through many years and was a longstanding member of her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi International. In her tenure with Beta Sigma Phi she held many leadership positions and enjoying being a mentor to new sorority sisters.
Blanche is survived by her three sons: Henry J. Lindsey, III of Denver, CO.; Russell Lindsey of Surf City, N.C.; David C. Lindsey of Oceanside, CA. and her sister, Martha Greene of Cheraw, S.C. She passed away as the matriarch of a family of five grandchildren and their spouses, eight great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. She will be missed by her sister-in-law Becky Bouchillon of Anderson, S.C., many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Blanche was preceded in death by her husband Henry, her sister Caroline Frazier, her brother Harold Bouchillon, and her parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside, California or to Beta Sigma Phi International.
