Ruben entered into rest on October 4, 2020 at the age of 83. He was being cared for at Aegis Shadowridge Memory Care Facility, where he lived with his loving and caring wife Lupe.
Ruben was born on November 7, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA to parents Elias C Sr. & Elisa C Flores and was raised in Montebello, CA along with his 10 siblings. Ruben attended Montebello High School and during this time as a teenager met his future wife, Louise Ruth Mullins. In 1957, he joined the military where he served in the US Navy. Ruben & Louise were married on February 20, 1960. They had four children and as a family they traveled together during his time of service in the Navy. After his retirement of 30 years, they settled into Carlsbad CA in 1987. This is when Ruben began working for the Encinitas School District for 14 years.
Ruben’s special interest and hobbies included fishing, coin collecting, metal detecting, and he enjoyed watching football and baseball. He was a kind and loving man who would go out of his way to help other’s. Ruben was well known for his practical jokes and great sense of humor. Also, he couldn’t pass up a wounded animal. He would bring it home, nurse it back to health and later some of them would even become his pets. In 2000, his wife Louise of 40 years passed away.
He once again found love when he met Lupe and they were married on February 12, 2003. After they married, moved to Fort Mojave, AZ until they returned to North County San Diego, CA in 2019. Ruben and Lupe were happily married for 17 years.
Survived by his wife, Lupe. Sister’s: Stella, Gloria and Joann. Children: Tina (Jeff) Jones, Robin (Harry) Meyer, “Sonny” Ruben Albert Flores, II and Holly Flores. Grandchildren: Sherrie, Melissa, Tasia, Breanna, Meghan, Richard, Krysta, Victoria and Brett. Great-grandchildren: Sebastian, Suny, Easton, Lynix, J.J., Mateo and Autumn. Marlene Pardo & family, Michael Vaughn & family.
Preceded in death were his parents: Elias C Sr. & Elisa C Flores. Siblings, Carmen, Bernard, Lisa, David, Elias Jr., Johnny, Carlos. His first wife, Louise and Great-granddaughter Hannah.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, October 19th at Eternal Hills Memorial Park
