Lorene Harper Johnson, a devoted Navy wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of faith and family. Born in Dumas, Arkansas to George and Evelyn Harper, Lorene was the last surviving child of nine. She married Troy Johnson in 1960, and they shared a lifelong partnership until Troy's passing in 2014. Lorene lived a life full of movement and adventure, accompanying her husband Troy during his naval career, which took them across many different states and countries.
A devout Baptist, Lorene's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She and Troy owned and operated multiple bookstores, reflecting her passion for reading and learning. This passion for literature and knowledge was a precious gift she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Her talent in crafting was extraordinary - she excelled in needlepoint, knitting, crochet, bunco, and quilting, creating beautiful tokens of her love. She was a lifelong fan of the San Diego Padres and Chargers, and actively supported her six children in their sports endeavors, driving them around town for games, practices, and events.
Lorene is survived by her children: Donna, DeWayne, Darrell, Bernie, Bill, and Brian; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Her life, defined by her dedication to her family and her faith, was celebrated in a service at Riverside Cemetery, where she has been laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide those who knew her.
In her memory, we request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
