1962-2015
Kimberly Sue Van Horn, 52, was born on December 23, 1962, in Terre Haute, Indiana. She died unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, in Carlsbad, California.
Kimberly was the first child born to George R. and Susan L. Van Horn. She grew up as a military child, living in Camp Pendleton, CA; San Francisco, CA; Pearl City, HI; Quantico, VA; Vienna, VA; and finally back to Palm Desert and Carlsbad, CA. She graduated from James Madison High School in Vienna, VA. And attended Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and Maric College in Vista where she graduated with highest honors. She worked in the Instructional Media Center for the Vista Unified School District and later, as a Billing Clerk at the Tri City Medical Center in Oceanside.
Kim was predeceased by her mother, Susan; her grandparents, George and Mildred Van Horn and Hugh and Muriel Bragdon; and her aunt, Lee Brooks. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Brittney, who was the love of her life; her father and stepmother, George and Nancy, of Lynnwood, WA; her brother, Scott, and his wife, Arland, of Aliso Viejo, CA. She is also survived by her niece and nephew, Sydney of Baltimore, MD and O’neil of Madison, NJ; her aunt, Jane DePeugh of Scottsdale, AZ; and several cousinsand their families…Susan Browne of Flossmore, IL; Sally Grabham of Scottsdale, AZ; Jan Quigley of Fallbrook, CA; and Kerry Hettleman of Prescott, AZ. Kim is also survived by her little dog, Otis, who was very special to her and who kept her company.
A Memorial Service celebrating Kim’s life will be held on Saterday, November 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA., with the Reverend Joe Irwin officiating. At her request, the family will scatter her ashes in the Pacific Ocean off Oceanside Harbor in the County of San Diego.
