Joyce was born on September 10th, 1934 in Pacoima, California to Kenith R. Moffitt and Rhoda “Ruth” Moffitt and soon after moved to Oceanside, California where she was a long-time resident for over 80 years.
Joyce graduated from Oceanside High School in 1952. She worked several jobs in her life, starting as a car-hop waitress at the Ad’s and Graham’s Drive-Ins in Oceanside and eventually retiring from her career at Tri-City Hospital after working in the billing department for over 25 years.
As mother to 8 children, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren she was always busy with her favorite hobby of knitting beautiful sweaters and scarfs for family and friends as well as baking her famous banana bread and cupcakes for special family occasions.
Joyce Brown was survived by her eight children: Jennifer Brown and spouse Donald Frauenberger of Oceanside; James A. Brown Jr. of Bonsall; Janet Tunney and spouse David Tunney of Oceanside; Jerry Brown and spouse Dana Brown of Bonsall; Julie Mattos and spouse Joe Mattos of Valley Center; John Brown and Spouse Laura Brown of Valley Center; Joe Brown of Oceanside; and Jeff Brown and partner Bill Vollbrecht of Oceanside. She left behind a beautiful legacy of 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, her dear cousin Loretta Brown of Carlsbad who was like a sister to her, and many wonderful neighbors, friends, and extended family who will all miss Joyce dearly.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Kenith Ray and Rhoda “Ruth” Moffitt, and her brothers Kenith Wayne Moffitt and Stanley Bruce Moffitt.
Visitation for Joyce will be held on Friday, September 7th, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Eternal Hills Memorial Park Chapel followed by graveside internment.
Family and friends are invited to gather at 1728 Whaley Street in Oceanside immediately following the service to celebrate her life and legacy with cake and ice cream.
