Dan was born in Minnesota as the youngest of four boys. His family moved to California in the early 1940’s. He grew up in Los Angeles County and graduated from Rosemead High School in 1956. He began working at Pacific Bell where he met his wife Margaret, they were married in 1958. He began working for the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1961, and later moved to Vista CA in 1986. Dan is survived by his wife, three kids, four grandchildren, two brothers, and numerous other relatives.
Dan had a talent for home repair and home improvement projects including electrical, plumbing, drywall, and wood-working. He was generous with his time and talents for family as well as friends. He was always the first to help out with projects and would rarely accept payment, even for materials that he supplied. He built cradles, rocking horses, tables, and other wood projects that will live on for generations to come.
Dan had a close circle of friends from high school that he has kept in touch with. In addition to annual Super Bowl parties and Del Mar Horse Racing gatherings, they would get together as often as possible to shoot the breeze and enjoy each others’ company.
Dan had a passion for football in general, and Notre Dame football in particular. Among his favorite trips was visiting South Bend and walking onto the Notre Dame campus and football field. One of his proudest achievements was making all-league as an under-sized nose tackle in high school. He used this same fighting spirit to overcome multiple bouts with cancer over the last 24 years. He never complained about his hardships, and always put god and family above his own needs. Dan will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but never forgotten, may he rest in peace.
Arrangements are under the direction of Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary, and Crematory, Oceanside, California.
