Charles J. Wilson, 81, of Carlsbad, California, passed away on February 25th, 2023. Charles was born on September 13, 1941 to John Scott Wilson and Mary Anna Conlon in Portsmouth, VA. After Charles graduated from Jenkins County High School in Millen, GA, he joined the United States Navy. He served as an aircraft engine mechanic on the USS Independence, and was active during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs.
In 1960, Charles met Joyce on a blind date in Richmond VA. They were married in 1962. Charles and Joyce went on to have three children, Chuck, David and Debbie. He worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 37 years, ending his career as the Field Office Director in San Diego. In 2004, Charles retired and spent time traveling with Joyce in their RV and spending time with friends at the Elks Lodge. Charles was a faithful member of Pacific View Baptist Church and Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Charles was predeceased by his mother, father and brother Bobby. He is survived by his wife Joyce, sons Chuck and David, daughter Debbie, brother Scotty, grandchildren Casey, Andrew, Travis, Jake, Corey, and Kayleeana and 2 great grandchildren, Logan and Olivia.
Services will be held at Eternal Hills in Oceanside, CA on Tuesday, March 14th: The viewing will be from 8:00 AM to 9:50 AM, the funeral service will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and the graveside service will be at 11:15 AM.
