Dad passed on October 8, 2013 after 99 years of a very full life. Born in Los Angeles on January 7, 1914; the eldest of his four siblings. He is the Father of six children Linda, Caroline, Arthur, Christopher, Charles (preceded him in death), and Cynthia. Husband to his loving wife of 45 years Velia, and step-dad to her 5 daughters, Patsy, Teresa (preceded in death), Michele, Karma, and Vida. Grandfather to his 26 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Prior to his military commitment he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and worked as “Prop Man” at MGM studios in Culver City, CA. He enlisted with the Marines in 1942, and during WWII was assigned to the Pacific Theater. Last November he attended his first Marine Corps Ball; an honor for his service. A member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Union #105 for 60 years, he worked on residential and commercial buildings in the Los Angeles basin. After his retirement he worked with the Mexican-American Youth Foundation.
He settled in Hawthorne, CA after the war and started his family. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he served his parish; Saint Joseph’s. His retirement years were spent at Sea Bluffe Village in Leucadia, CA.
His passions were cooking and wood working. He favored these hobbies more for the company of his family and friends that found their way into his kitchen and garage.
A memorial will be held on January 3, 2014 at 1:00pm at Eternal Hills Mortuary, Oceanside, CA.
A celebration of his life and 100th birthday will be held on January 4, 2014 at Sea Bluffe Village, Leucadia, CA. in the recreation room.
