Carl Wesley Galloway was born on July 29, 1943 in Wiergate, Texas. Born as the fifth of seven children, he grew up in Galveston and graduated from Central High School. He later joined the Marine Corps in March of 1964. His service included two tours during the Vietnam War and embassy duty all over the world, which led to Carl visiting nearly 25 different countries. In addition, he made many enriching lifelong friendships.
Carl and his future-wife Lois first met in 1970, became reacquainted in 1974, began dating again in 1981 and were married on April 10, 1982. With this marriage, he was blessed with a stepdaughter, Donna, and two stepsons, Darryl and Gary. Carl and Lois welcomed their son, Carl Wesley Galloway II, into the world in 1983. He retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in 1991 after 28 years in the military. After his military years, he served as a security guard until his retirement in 2013.
Carl rarely missed any of his son, Carl’s sports games and he traveled as far as Hawaii and Vermont to see them. He spent many hours (and lots of energy) entertaining his two grandsons, Joshua and Carl III as “Poppy.” Carl always loved westerns and could often be found napping in front of a TV playing The Outlaw Josey Wales. Also, he was an unconditional fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Those who knew him will never forget his willingness to help at a moments notice, his calm spirit and his devotion to his family.
Those he leaves to cherish his memories are his wife, Lois Galloway; brothers and sisters, Georgia E. Caldwell, Alma Jean Fonteno, and Curtis M. Galloway; son and daughter-in-law Carl Wesley Galloway II and Carrie Galloway; stepson and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Jarka Stephens; and his stepchildren, Donna and Gary Stephens. Also, his two grandsons Joshua Stephens and Carl Wesley Galloway III and a host of other family members and friends that were not mentioned but will always remain in our thoughts.
