Sherry Hope Berger was born on February 23, 1947 into the Berger family who resided in Brooklyn. They lived in a one bedroom walk up, but that didn’t stop a teenage Sherry from buying a horse! She loved to sing, so she and a few friends formed a band. They’d cover a lot of the Carpenters and of course play “Sherry Baby”!
After graduating from Erasmus High School, Sherry went right to work in the city…she literally hit the pavement going from office to office till she got a job, after all it was a “man’s world”. Sherry became very successful in the garment industry.
Sherry fell in love several times, but found true love with her husband, Norman. They shared many passions, the most special one being…Salsa dancing. They enjoyed living in the city and frequenting their favorite coffee shops. Eventually they ditched the cold winters of the north and spent them in Miami where they danced their evenings away!
Sherry, a true New Yorker, was fiercely independent, funny, strong willed and had style. She loved vintage jewelry which she developed into a lucrative business. Sherry enjoyed shopping, decorating and spending time with her family.
Sherry moved to New Jersey to be closer to family after her beloved Norman passed away. While the last couple of years were fraught with illness, she was able to spend quality time with her loved ones.
Sherry is preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman Solomon, and her wonderful parents Harry and Alice Berger and is survived by her faithful sister, Lynda Berger, devoted neice Jamie Wagner (Kenneth Wagner), grand-niece Emily Martin (Evan Martin) and grand-nephew Alec Walsack (Elizabeth Waters).
There will be a private ceremony at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries where Sherry will rest in peace and love with her beloved husband and parents.
Family and friends are invited to pay a shiva call and celebrate the life of Sherry at the home of Ken and Jamie Wagner on July 19th from 3:00-8:00.
