Born in Sprendlingen, Germany, she immigrated to the United States to evade Nazi Germany, and travelled through the Panama Canal to settle in San Francisco. It was there that she married her first husband and worked as a waitress for the San Francisco Bar Association. Eventually, her sisters Betty and Hedy followed her to the United States and became citizens as well.
She married her second husband, George Lam, and resided in California and Oregon until his passing. At that time, she moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey to be close to her sister, Betty, which is where she lived the rest of her life.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, George, and her two sisters, Betty Casper and Hedy Dorn.
Surviving her are a loving niece and nephew: Irene Evanoski and Daniel Sferas; a great niece and nephew: Jennifer Spar and Nick Evanoski; great-great nieces, Sasha and Olivia; and 1 great-great-great nephew, Dash.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Highway 35, Ocean, NJ. Interment will immediately follow at Congregation Agudath Achim Cemetery in Neptune. For more information, or to post a tribute online, please visit www.bloomfieldcooperocean.com.
