With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jordan Klein, Sr., who departed this life on October 1, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on December 1, 1925, Jordan lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to his family and community.
Jordan’s professional life was distinguished and impactful. He was a World War II combat veteran in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific theater, he was renowned film industry figure known for his pioneering work in underwater cinematography. Jordan’s notable contributions include working on iconic films such as “Thunderball” (1965), “Never Say Never Again” (1983), and “Jaws: The Revenge” (1987) Splash (1983) and Cocoon (1984). Working on over 78 films in all. He was honored with an Academy Award for Best Technical Achievement in 2001 for his pioneering efforts in developing and applying underwater camera housings for motion pictures. His work had a significant influence on the field of underwater photography, earning him respect and admiration from his colleagues and peers.
Jordan was also recognized locally for his contributions. In 2019, he was honored with a Walk of Fame plaque by the Ocala Film Foundation and the City of Ocala. His legacy of innovation in underwater cinematography and his creative designs have left a lasting impact on the motion picture industry.
Jordan was the cherished husband of Lori Klein, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his son, Jordan Klein Jr., and a loving stepfather to Monty Klein, Brad Storz, and Tracey Braun. Father-in-law to Arlene Klein, Lanora Storz, and Jason Braun. His grandchildren, Tyler Klein, Elle Klein, Rossi Klein, Brandon Storz, Chloe Braun, Lilly Braun, and Gable Braun, were also the light of his life, bringing him immense joy and pride.
A celebration of Jordan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Marion Theater in Ocala, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, a cause close to Jordan’s heart.
Jordan Klein, Sr. will be remembered for his warmth, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us all.
