He went on to meet our Savior renewed, after living a wonderful, wonderful life, restored and happy. His life was full of joy in that he grew up in and raised a great family.
He proudly served his Country in the Army Air Corps in World War II and later joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Villages Honor Guard so he could continue to serve.
He worked as a bricklayer and stone mason while he and his wife had 3 sons, James, Joseph and Robert, and a daughter, Kathleen. They moved, in 1963 from Queens, NY, to the south shore of Long Island and brought his parents with them. There the family grew amidst a huge backyard, Grandpa’s garden and lots of weekends with the classic extended family gatherings. Time at the beach on the family boat on the Great South Bay fishing, clamming and swimming were an integral part of life.
In spite of battling through some tough physical ailments over time, Jim pressed on with the work ethic he and Helen exemplified out of the post-WWII era.
After retiring, Jim and Helen traveled in a modest RV camping and exploring our great Country. After a number of years they found a place in Florida called Lady Lake and decided to settle there. Though far from their kids, it was idyllic for them and they were able to rest, recreate and enjoy life, meeting new friends and hosting some old ones.
He will be remembered as a great Storyteller, and conversation at the dinner table was usually dominated by him. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Helen, sons James, Joseph (Betsy), Robert (David Morse) and daughter Kathleen (Michael Morelli), sister Sally (Pete DeBlasi), brother Joe (Liz) Mancuso, grandchildren James, Elizabeth and William, and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him well.
A Christian Mass at St. Timothy’s and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Donations in his name may be made to Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162.
