Mildred White King was born to the late Isaiah and Dollie White on January 13, 1928 in Wabbaseka, AR.
Mom as she was known to most of us, was the oldest of seven children. At an early age, she helped taking care of her siblings when both her parents went to work.
She enjoyed growing up on the farm where they grew fresh vegetables and fruits.
Mom met and married her first husband Jonathan Hockenhull in Wabbaseka, AR. Later they moved to Oakland, CA where their two sons Herman and Herbert were born. Mom and Jonathan went their separate ways when the boys were in their early teens.
While raising two teenage boys, mom went back to school where she obtained her high school diploma, the same year that her youngest son graduated from high school in 1966. She also bought her first house in Oakland, where she lived until 2017.
Mom found Christ, at an early age and was a faithful member at Fairfax Lighthouse Community Church. Christ was her whole life and she lived by his words. Mom’s smile, laughter, kindness and
generous heart will never be forgotten.
Mom was preceded in death by her second husband, George King; parents, Isaiah and Dollie White; son, Herman; and a brother, Leon. She leaves to cherish her precious memory; her son, Herbert; daughter-in-law, Susanne; sisters, John Etta White, Mary Davis, Bettie Griffin; brothers, Linard White and Cleophas
White; granddaughters, Tamiza Stone and Miriam Aguilar; grandson, Hasani Hockenhull; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
As Mom would always say, “I’m a blessed old lady.”
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
