Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 5,
2019 at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rick Lemberg
officiating. A celebration of life luncheon will be provided by the family
immediately following the service. If Forest Service officials would like
to wear their uniform to commemorate his service in the United States
Forest Service, they are welcome to. Additionally if former team
members of Coach Barber's would like to wear a sports jersey they are
welcome to wear the jersey of their choosing.
Steven Barber was born in Boulder, CO to Donald Barber and Donna
Teets on October 4, 1954. He went to high school in Lemoore, CA and
graduated with honors from Lemoore High School. He married Laura
Barber on May 25, 1974 in Lemoore, CA. He graduated from Reedley
junior College with an associates degree in forestry. He worked as a
Forest Service Sale Prep Forester and Logging Engineer in the Bass
Lake and Mariposa Ranger District for the United States Forest Service
for 40 years. Coach Barber coached hundreds of Mountain Area
children for Pop Warner football and Little League over 30 years. He
maintained the Little League fields through countless summers of
baseball season. He was volunteer of the year for Little League in
2003.
Steven Barber is remembered for his loyalty, hard-work, sarcasm, and
generosity. His contributions to his community can be measured in the
height and girth of the trees he loved and the hundreds of young
people he mentored, and his family. His family was central to
everything he did. He worked hard, played hard, and ensured his
legacy was preserved in the hearts of his wife and children. His family
and community will always remember a life well lived.
Steven Barber was preceded in death by his father Donald Barber, his
mother Donna Wilson and his brother Gregory Barber.
Steven Barber is survived by his wife of 45 years Laura Barber, his
daughter Kimberly Conway and son in law Arthur Conway, his daughter
Rebecca Barber-Grabast and son in law Jon Grabast, his son Robert
Barber and daughter in law Jenny Barber, his son Michael Barber, his
sister Kelley Virden, and 9 beautiful grandchildren: Narayan Bibbo,
Amelie Conway, Lillian Barber, Ariella Barber, Promise Barber, Noah
Barber, Selah Barber, Destyni Grabast and Lincoln Barber.
The family respectfully asks that in lieu of floral arrangements,
donations can be made to a ministry Robert and Jenny Barber belong
to, YWAM Los Angeles. Donations can be mailed to Youth With a
Mission, 11141 Osborne Street, Lakeview Terrace, CA 91342.
