Robert Lee Gross Jr. (Bobby, a.k.a “Dinky”) was born July 26, 1964. He was the second of three sons from the union of Robert (Sr.) and Marilyn Glover Gross who preceded him in death. Bobby cherished the teachings from his grandparents Dave, Annie Maude Gross and Pinkie Baldwin (Aunt) who also preceded him in death.
Bobby accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. J.W.R. Owens of Second Baptist Church, La Grange IL. He later joined New Spiritual Light M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Walter Turner III. He was a loyal and faithful member where he was appointed and served as a Deacon in Training until departing this life.
Bobby attended Congress Park Elementary, Brookfield IL, Madison Elementary, Hinsdale IL, Garfield Elementary, Maywood IL and Proviso East High School, Maywood IL. While attending Elementary and High School, Bob became a star competitor in track and field, winning countless ribbons, medals, and trophies, including a state championship. Upon graduating High School Bobby attended Triton Jr College majoring in Criminal Justice. He later joined the United States Marine Corps. After leaving the Marines he held several positions; with Maryville Academy, Chicago Cubs Organization, Westlake Hospital, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Because of his entrepreneurial spirit RLG & Associates Security Services was formed.
From a very young tender age his passion was to become a Professional Operator (Driver) for Greyhound. When he was young, you would find him playing with anything he could get his hands on (hairbrush, comb, toy busses, etc.) to imitate driving a double decker bus. His love and passion was so strong he and our father went down to Greyhound on Clark Street in the middle of a severe thunderstorm to wait for a double decker to arrive, so they could settle an argument as to how many wheels were on the bus. During his tenure with Greyhound Bob served as a Union Steward in Chicago and Memphis and could be found advising Operators from across the country. His tenaciousness and spirited arguments, gained him the nickname as “The Great Debater” in our family. If you knew Bob, you know this to be true throughout his life, both personally and professionally!
On August 24, 2018, at 10:43 a.m., Bobby departed this life and was born into eternity, leaving to cherish his memory: his son William Wesley Gross (Danyale), grandchild Elijah Hunter, two brothers David Gross, Ronald Gross Sr. (Vicki), nephew Ronald Gross Jr. (Ronnie), niece Alyana Gross, Mary Donnawell (longtime loving family friend), Keturah Baldwin (Cousin/Sister), Brennan Baldwin (God Son), and a host of relatives and friends.
