Paul Gibson Smith

beloved and cherished husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend died on September 26, 2015 at the age of 87.

Paul, who was known to many of his friends as Gib, was born on September 5, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to John Morris Smith and Hazel Christine Smith (née Rudolph), both deceased. This date was a shock to him because until Paul needed a copy of his birth certificate when he was drafted into the army, he thought his birthdate was September 3rd because this is what his mother had always told him.

Paul is survived by a brother, Craig Sims Smith, who lives in Sarasota, Florida with his wife Stephanie and their son, Andy.

Paul married his wife, Jane Lou Smith (née Davis), in March 1951, and they enjoyed 56 happy years together before she died in 2008.

Paul has four children: Pamela Smith-Irowa (Ozin), Scott, Kerri McKinley (Randy), and Sherrin Whiteside (Robert). He also has seven grandchildren (Amoreena, Kyle, Colleen, Kurt, Paul, Osadolo, and Melissa) and several great grandchildren.

Paul is a man with a strong faith in the Lord, and this faith has sustained him through life's trials and tribulations. It has also determined the kind of life he has led as his many friends can attest. There is not one person he has known who has failed to be cheered by his kindness and friendship. He will be missed on the Board at Bradford House, but we can only hope that there is a Board for him in the place to where he is going. To say that he will be missed by his family and friends is an understatement, but we are comforted in the knowledge that he will be joining family and friends who have already passed on.

Memorial services and light refreshments will be held at Chapel Hill West Cemetery in Oak Brook Terrance on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1 pm.
