Thomas Scott Hyland, 51, passed suddenly on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Incredibly loving husband, best friend, soulmate and forever love of Patsy, nee Cabell; Amazingly dedicated and loving Daddy of Benjamin Gabriel, Scotty Xiaotian and Lila Marcy Ziyue Hyland; loving son of Constance R. Hyland, nee Anderson and Thomas J. Hyland (Diane Jansky); cherished brother of Linda (Michael) Straube, Kristine Hyland, John (Jennifer), Jennifer O'Donnell (Jim Brown) and Amy (Will) Evans; adored uncle of David Anderson, Luke and Hannah Straube, Charlie and Zachary Pasciak, Michael, Matthew, Timothy and Daniel Hyland, Ashley O'Donnell, Hunter Brown, Nathan and Shawn Evans, Max and Macy, Emily and Lucy, Liam and Stella Cabell and Isaac Kelly; dear son-in-law of Charlie and Marcy Rice; dearest brother-in-law of Frank and Lisa Cabell, Steve and Kelly Cabell, David and Kelly Cabell, Carla and Andy Kelly.
Tom was born in Oak Lawn, IL, on June 15, 1965. He grew up in the Chicago area and loved his home town. Tom worked at State Farm Insurance for over 21 years, with most of his career as a trainer and more recently as an analyst using the computer science degree he worked so very hard to obtain in 2013. He was highly respected throughout the entire corporation by peers and management alike. He cared very much for children who need families and had a passion for adoption. He and Patsy worked together to start an adoption ministry at their previous church, and Tom would take time to speak with anyone about the miracle of adoption and the huge need to adopt, love and support children who need families. He was the kind of person that would give money to a stranger in need on the street and did not worry about how it was spent, leaving that to God.
Tom was an exceptional Christian, husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, employee, co-worker, and friend. Tom loved his family and God with all his heart. He always put his wife and three beautiful children above all else. Tom was in a class all his own regarding how to be a great father and husband. It just came naturally to him. He was a brilliant person who had endless compassion for helping others. Tom and Patsy’s love was orchestrated by God and will forever remain. Tom was not only Patsy’s “Stud from Chicago,” but her calm, her rock, and will always be the love of her life. As long as Tom was there, any situation was okay. He always reassured his children that as long as they all were together as a family, they were home.
Tom and his family had just moved back to the Chicago area days before tragedy occurred. He was looking forward to his family life ahead. He and Patsy just celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary days before. Even though his sudden passing is indescribably difficult, we are so incredibly blessed and honored to have had him in our lives for the time that we did.
