Beloved father of Andre (Corina) Smith and David (Lennie) Smith; cherished grandfather of William, Benjamin and Abigail Smith; uncle to many nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Robert J. and Anna Lorene Smith; twin brothers Keith and Kenneth Smith, sisters Yvonne, Betty, Nora Jean and Rose Smith. Robert's memory will be cherished by many other relatives and friends.
Robert was born in Chicago in 1939 and grew up in Forest Ville. Robert or Bob or Smitty to most of his friends, went to Corpus Christi school, then on to DuSable High School and later graduated from Chicago State University. Bob served in the Army and later joined the Chicago Police Department and worked for 33 years as an officer in the 7th district. Bob was a good father who was there to guide his sons into adulthood. Always active, he loved to roller skate at Markham roller rink and bike ride along the lakefront. He would take trips whenever he could as well. Rio was one of his favorite places.
One place you could always find Bob was in his kitchen in front of the TV watching any number of sport games. He loved watching basketball and football, but his favorite was boxing. It was fun listening to him describe a fight, especially the classics. He was good at remembering birthdays and it was nice to receive a card from him.
Bob was a true family man and a good friend to so many. Bob was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
