Oak Lawn – Marguerite “Marge”, “Rite” O’Brien, age 90, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, May 26, 2017. She was born on July 11, 1926 in Chicago, the daughter of Walter and Matilda (Sand) O’Brien.
She retired from Griffith Laboratories where she had the reputation of being a smart dresser, and always put together from head to toe. She worked with numbers all her life and would make sure her own checkbook balanced to the penny until her last days.
She was called "Auntie" by her many cousins and second cousins whom she adored and who equally adored her. Although somewhat quiet with family and friends, she loved every minute of the ribbing she received from them, all in good humor.
She enjoyed traveling, card games, murder mysteries, The Golden Girls, and especially her daily trips to the corner store for her scratch tickets. In a mean game of nickel poker, the woman could not be bluffed.
Every waitress in the neighborhood loved her and her sister's regular visits for a bite to eat and a little friendly banter.
She will forever be known as "the World's Biggest Worrier", and she's likely looking down and fretting about something right now.
She is survived by her sister Rosemary, her cousins, who she referred to as “Her Kids,” Donna, Bev (Robert), Genevieve, Sandra (Jim), Debbie (John), John, Sharon, Kathy, Julie (James), Cindy (Kristin), Jeff (Frank), Megan, Cheryl (Rob), Justin (Melanie) and soon to be born Kyle; and very special friends The Carl and Disteldorf Families, Ginny, Marian, Joan and Rose.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, Genevieve, Walter (Rosemary) and Raymond and cousins Robert Byczek, Janet Camp and James “Jim” Dondlinger.
