Joan passed away late Thursday night, June 23, in a country where Roe v. Wade was still the law of the land. Thank God she didn’t wake up Friday morning to discover it was struck down. That might have killed her.
Beloved wife of the late Mark William Ennis, Jr; loving mother of Shannon Ennis, Mark-John (Stephanie) Ennis; proud grandmother of Eleanor Eileen and Fiona Frances Ennis; “Sisty Ugler” of the late Mary Agnes (late William) McGlynn, Patricia (late Robert) Navadomskis, and the late John Shannon, Jr.; “Auntie Joan” of Brian, Peter, Kathy, Kerry, Billy, Mary, Katie, Jenny, Sarah, and many more who know who they are.
Known aliases include “Booful Honey,” “The Artesian Queen,” “Little Joanie Shannon.” She loved being Mrs. Ennis to her students. But her favorite titles were Grandma and Moooooooooom!
To celebrate Joan’s spirit, start a project you may or may not finish, nag your kids, offer advice whether it’s solicited or not, prioritize education, learn to sew a little, cackle at a filthy joke, make a clever quip, laugh til you’re red in the face, enjoy a salty snack with a fountain Coke or try a Fannie May dark chocolate buttercream with a cup of Earl Grey. Freely express love as she did every day of her life.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Planned Parenthood or hdsa.org.
Celebration of life Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25th 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. A Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, July 26th 11:00 a.m. at St. Linus Church 10400 S. Lawler Ave., Oak Lawn. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL.
