John Francis Callahan

On December 27, 2016, John Francis Callahan, beloved husband of Dorothy H. Callahan (nee Sauerwald); devoted father of John Callahan, Jr., Colleen Freeman, Kevin Callahan, Thomas Callahan, Anne Pesto, and Laura Callahan Mezan; dear brother of Susan Wolfe; loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren; cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Irene Callahan, his 3 sisters Patricia Walsh, Rosemary Ross, and Alma Thurman, and his 2 brothers Louis and Eugene Callahan. John shared a great love for music and was an accomplished musician, having played multiple instruments. He spent his career from 1952-to 1990 as a biochemist toxicologist at the U.S Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center formerly known as Edgewood Arsenal. He was well regarded by his peers and was an asset to his field.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Oakcrest Village Chapel. Interment on Sunday at 11 am at St. Anthony’s Shrine Roman Catholic Church Cemetery (Emmittsburg, MD).
